Review: Far From Proper - "Rock Bottom" EP

Release InfoFar From Proper - Rock Bottom EP
Release Date: June 9, 2012
Buy: Digital/CD

Far From Proper, the five-piece from Poughkeepsie, NY, have released their new album, Rock Bottom. The north-east seems to be spitting out solid Pop-Punk bands non-stop for the past few years. This album and band are most definitely a contender in the Pop-Punk genre. Far From Proper is far from the generic Pop-Punk sound. I could assume that bands like, Major League, With The Punches, and The Wonder Years influence this band. Their sound is honest, fast-paced, and fun.

This record has some extremely catchy songs on it. One of which being Oak Grove, this song has a groovy beginning that makes me want to bob my head and verses that make me want to jump up and down. The song definitely has some quotable lyrics, like the chorus, "How does it feel to know she swallowed you whole? / You’d sell your soul just to feel more at home".

Another song that sticks out to me off the record is Killadelphia. This band really knows how to write some catchy choruses. The lead guitar line behind the chorus is currently stuck in my head for good. I’m not complaining at all.

My favorite song off the record was Fight Or Flight, featuring guest vocals with Jesse from With The Punches. I’ve been a With The Punches fan for a while, and I was excited to hear that their vocalist had a spot on the record. Fight Or Flight is a classic sounding Pop-Punk song.

This record, as compared to their last release, really shows how much the members have grown within the band. The structure and sounds of the songs are both significantly better. The record as a whole was mixed very well and has a solid sounds and no musical part sticks out more than the next.
